CAN I REGISTER FOR MORE THAN ONE CITY?
Yes, you may compete in multiple 2011 URBANATHLON® events.
If you wish to compete Solo in one city and as a Team in another, you will need to go through the registration process separately for each. However, the multi-city discount will still apply and be automatically applied during registration checkout.
Please call 800-599-5177 or email registration@menshealthurbanathlon.com if you have any questions about the above.
HOW DOES ONE GET PROMOTIONAL CODES?
Please call 800-599-5177 or email registration@menshealthurbanathlon.com to obtain Promotional Codes.
HOW DO PROMOTIONAL CODES WORK?
Promotional codes may not be combined with any other discounts of any kind. Only one Promotional Code per person per registration. Please note that Promotional Codes will NOT be valid during Early Bird registration.
All Promotional Codes must be entered at time of registration. Promotional Codes not entered at time of registration shall not be valid or redeemable, including for credit, adjustment, refund or otherwise. All Promotional Codes are subject to change without notice. If you used a Promotional Code during registration, when picking up your race packet you MUST present valid ID (see below) based on the Promotional Code used. Anyone unable to produce a valid form of ID for the applicable Promotional Code may be disqualified from the URBANATHLON® or required to pay to Rodale Inc. the value of the applicable Promotional Code discount.
WHAT IS THE REFUND POLICY?
There will be NO refunds. Entries are non-refundable and non-transferable.
CAN WOMEN PARTICIPATE?
Yes, women are welcome to participate as solo racers or as part of a relay team.
WHY ARE IPODS/PORTABLE MEDIA DEVICES PROHIBITED?
IPods/portable media devices are strictly prohibited because of the unique urban makeup of this event. The obstacles involve jumping, crawling and climbing and thus lend themselves to headphone cord snags and dropped devices that result in back-ups and run-ins. This rule has been set to protect all involved parties from injury. Race staff will be aggressively enforcing this rule on race day.
HOW ARE THE OBSTACLES INCORPORATED INTO THE RACE?
Arrows along the race course will direct you to the obstacle locations. All obstacles must be completed as you work your way through the race, and your finishing time for the race will include the time it takes you to complete each obstacle.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I CAN'T COMPLETE AN OBSTACLE?
All obstacles must be completed in order to continue on with the race. Racers are free to work together to complete any of the obstacles. However, racers who cannot complete an obstacle will not be permitted to finish the race and issued a DNF. Race staff will be enforcing this rule on race day.
HOW OLD DO I HAVE TO BE TO RACE?
All racers must be 18 years of age or older to participate in this event.
HOW OLD DO I HAVE TO BE TO BE A VOLUNTEER?
All volunteers must be 18 years of age or older to participate in this event.

IF WE ARE IN DIFFERENT AGE GROUPS, CAN WE RUN TOGETHER?
Different age groups will likely be separated by the wave start plan. Racers hoping to run with someone should plan to meet up at a set location such as Hydration Station 1.
HOW DOES THE WAVE START WORK?
Each racer will be assigned a specific wave in which they are required to begin the race. The waves will start at intervals beginning at the official start time of the race.
Timing Headquarters keeps the official time clock for the competition. The race clock is real time; it begins when a racer crosses the timing mats at the start and stops when they cross the finish line. Racers who do not start as part of their assigned wave will not be given a finish time and will not be listed in the results.
Staging for the race start will begin 30 minutes prior to start. Racers need to look for their assigned wave's staging sign within the start area and line up first-come, first-served.
With the exception of Wave One, all waves will be based on age, gender and the total number of people registered for each. Specific directions will be provided in race packets.
HOW DOES WAVE ONE WORK?
Wave One is open only to the first 300 racers who have posted an acceptable "qualifying" time in a previous URBANATHLON® event. Sign-up is on a first-come, first-served basis.
Wave One is optional for all athletes who qualify, but NOT required. Should a racer choose, he/she may forgo their qualifying time and run with their age group.
If you qualify and choose to compete in this wave:

WHAT CONSTITUTES A TEAM?
Relay teams consist of three team members; each member runs approximately one-third of the race. There will be transition areas at the beginning of leg 2 and 3 of the race, where relay team members will pass their team's timing chip to the member running the next leg of the race.
CAN 2 PEOPLE RUN THE RELAY?
No. All relay teams must consist of three team members.
IF WE REGISTER AS A TEAM, CAN WE ALL COMPLETE IN THE ENTIRE RACE?
No. Racers who have completed their race leg are NOT permitted to finish the race, nor are they permitted to assist other relay team members in any way while they are participating in the event. Racers interested in running the full race should register as a solo.
CAN A TEAM MEMBER BE REPLACED?
Yes. Please call 800-599-5177 or email registration@menshealthurbanathlon.com to speak with a race representative.
DO ALL RELAY TEAM MEMBERS NEED TO BE PRESENT FOR PACKET PICKUP?
No. One team member may pick up your packet for you. However, they MUST have copies of all non-present team members' driver's licenses. Additionally, if a Promotional Code was used, the picking-up party MUST also have a copy of the appropriate Promotional Code ID (see "How do promotional codes work?" for details).
IF I AM RUNNING SOLO, CAN SOMEONE PICK UP MY PACKET FOR ME?
Yes. A third party can pick up your packet for you. However, they MUST have a copy of your driver's license. Additionally, if a Promotional Code was used, the picking-up party MUST also have a copy of the appropriate Promotional Code ID (see "How do promotional codes work?" for details).
WILL THERE BE PACKET PICKUP ON THE MORNING OF THE RACE?
There will be NO packet pickup on the morning of the race. Racers who cannot pick up their packet on the designated days may arrange for a third party to pick up their packet for them prior to race day (see "If I am running solo, can someone pick up my packet for me?" for details).
